Conversion, repentance and repentance

Repentance means: turning away from sin, turning to God!

Conversion, repentance, repentance (also translated as "repentance") towards the gracious God is a change of attitude, brought about by the Holy Spirit and rooted in the Word of God. Repentance involves becoming aware of one's own sinfulness and accompanying a new life sanctified by the faith of Jesus Christ. To repent is to repent and repent.

“I must have heard Ephraim complain: You have chastened me and I was chastened like a young bull who has not yet been tamed. If you convert me, I will convert; because you, Lord, are my God! After I was converted, I repented, and when I came to Understanding, I hit my chest. I have become ashamed and stand there red with shame; for I bear the shame of my youth Isn't Ephraim my dear son and my dear child? Because as often as I threaten him, I have to remember him; therefore my heart breaks, to have mercy on him, says the Lord »(Jeremiah 31,18-20).

John the Baptist
«At that time John the Baptist came and preached in the wilderness of Judea, saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand! For it is this of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke and said (Isaiah 40,3): It is the voice of a preacher in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord and make his path! But he, Johannes, had on a garment made of camel's hair and a leather belt around his loins; but his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the land by the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. When he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, You bred vipers, who made you sure that you would escape the wrath to come? See, bring righteous fruit of repentance! Just do not think that you could say to yourselves: We have Abraham for our Father. For I say to you, God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones. The ax has already been laid to the roots of the trees. Therefore: every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. I baptize you with water in repentance; but he who comes after me is stronger than me, and I am not worth wearing his shoes; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. He has the scoop in his hand and will separate the wheat from the chaff and collect his wheat in the barn; but he will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire »(Matthew 3,1-12).

About the prodigal son
«Jesus said, A man had two sons. And the younger of them said to the father, Give me, father, the inheritance that is due to me. And he divided the habakkuk and the estate among them. And not long afterwards the younger son gathered everything together and moved to a distant country; and there he brought his inheritance through with prassen. But when he had consumed everything, a great famine came over that country and he began to starve and went and clung to a citizen of that country; he sent him to his field to tend the pigs. And he desired to fill his belly with the pods that the pigs ate; and no one gave them to him. Then he went to himself and said, How many day laborers does my father have, who have plenty of bread, and I perish here in hunger! I will get up and go to my father and say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy of being called your son; make me the same as one of your day laborers! And he got up and came to his father. But when he was still a long way off, his father saw him and wailed, and he ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy of being called your son. But the father said to his servants, Bring the best garment quickly and put it on him, put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet, and bring the fattened calf and slaughter it; let's eat and be happy! For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and has been found. And they started to be happy. But the older son was in the field. And when he got near the house, he heard singing and dancing and called one of the servants to him and asked what it was. But he said to him, Your brother has come, and your father slaughtered the fattened calf because he got him back healthy. He got angry and didn't want to go inside. Then his father went out and asked him. But he answered and said to his father, Behold, I have served you for so many years and have never broken your commandment, and you have never given me a goat to be happy with my friends. 30 But now, when this son of yours came, who wasted your habakkuk and your property with harlots, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him. But he said to him, My son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. But you should be cheerful and of good cheer; for this brother of yours was dead and has come to life again, he was lost and has been found »(Luke 15,11-32).

The Pharisee and the tax collector
“But he said this parable to some who were convinced that they were pious and righteous, and despised the others: Two people went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: I thank you, God, that I am not like other people, robbers, unrighteous people, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and tithe everything I take. The tax collector, however, stood far away and did not want to lift his eyes to heaven, but struck his breast and said: God, have mercy on me as a sinner! I tell you, this one went down to his house justified, not that one. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled; and whoever humbles himself will be exalted »(Luke 18,9-14).

Zacchaeus
«And he went into Jericho and passed through. And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, who was a chief of the tax collectors and was rich. And he desired to see Jesus who he was, and could not because of the crowd; for he was small in stature. And he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him; because that's where he should get through. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, Zacchaeus, get down quickly; because I have to stop at your house today. And he hurried down and received him with joy. When they saw this, they all grumbled and said, "He has returned to a sinner." But Zacchaeus came and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, I give half of what I have to the poor, and if I have deceived someone, I give it back four times. But Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, for he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man has come to seek and save what is lost »(Luke 19,1-10).
