Crucified in Christ

Died and raised in and with Christ

All Christians, whether they know it or not, have a part in the cross of Christ. Were you there when you crucified Jesus? If you are a Christian, that is, if you believe in Jesus, the answer is yes, you were there. We were with him even though we didn't know at the time. That may sound confusing. What does it really mean? In today's parlance we would say that we identify with Jesus. We accept him as our Redeemer and Savior. We accept his death as payment for all of our sins. But that is not all. We also accept - and share - his resurrection and his new life!

Bible translation "Luther 2017"

«Truly, truly, I say to you: Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and does not come to judgment, but has passed from death to life. Verily, verily, I say to you, the hour is coming, and it is already now, that the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear them will live. For just as the father has life in himself, so he also gave the son to have life in himself; and he has given him authority to judge, because he is the Son of Man »(John 5,24-27).

«Jesus said to her: I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live even if he dies soon »(Johannes 11,25).

«What do we want to say about this? Are we then to persevere in sin so that grace may be all the more powerful? Far be it! We died of sin. How can we still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who are baptized into Christ Jesus are baptized into his death? So we are buried with him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in a new life. For if we have grown together with him, become like him in his death, then we will also be like him in the resurrection. We know that our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, so that from now on we would not serve sin. For whoever died has become free from sin. But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him, and know that Christ, raised from the dead, will not die from now on; death will no longer rule over him. For what he died he died to sin once and for all; but what he lives he lives to God. So you too: consider yourself to be people who have died of sin and live for God in Christ Jesus »(Romans 6,1-11).

«So you too, my brothers and sisters, were killed to the law by the body of Christ, so that you belong to another, namely to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bear fruit for God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions awakened by the law were strong in our members, so that we bore the fruit of death. But now we have become free from the law and have died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new essence of the spirit and not in the old essence of the letter »(Romans 7,4-6).
