Give your worst to the master

You may know the old hymn that begins by saying "Give your best to the Master, nothing else worthy of His love." It is a wonderful memory and an important one. God deserves our best that we can give him. But when we think about it, God not only wants our best - he also asks us to do our worst.

In 1. Petrus 5,7 we are told: cast all your worries on him; because he cares for you. Jesus knows that we are not always in the best of shape. Even if we've been Christians for years, we still have worries and problems. We still make mistakes. We still sin. Even if we sing a song like Do your best to Master, we end up giving our worst to God.

We can all identify with the words of the apostle Paul in the 7th chapter of Romans: Because I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. I do want to, but I cannot do what is good. Because I don't do the good that I want; but the evil that I don't want, that's what I do. But if I do what I do not want, it is not I who do it, but the sin that dwells in me (Rom 7,18-20).

We all want to do our best to God, but in the end we give God our worst. And that's just the point. God knows our sins and failures, and he has forgiven us everything in Jesus Christ. He wants us to know that he loves us and takes care of us. Jesus says to us: Come to me, all of you who are troublesome and burdensome; I want to refresh you (Matthew 11,28). Give your worries to God - you don't need them. Give your fears to God. Give him your fear, your anger, your hatred, your bitterness, your disappointment, even your sins. We don't need to bear the burden of these things, and God doesn't want us to keep them. We have to hand them over to God because he wants to take them away from us, and he is the only one who can properly dispose of them. Give all your bad habits to God. Give him all of your resentments, all of your immoral thoughts, all of your addictive behavior. Give him all your sins and all your guilt.

Why? Because God has already paid for it. It's his and by the way, it's not good for us to keep them. So we have to let go of our worst and hand over everything to God. Give all your guilt to God, all the negative things that we should not carry according to God's will. He loves you and he wants to take it out of your hands. Allow him to have everything.
You will not regret it.
