Jesus is the way

689 jesus is the wayWhen I started following the way of Christ, my friends weren't happy about it. They argued that all religions lead to the same God and took examples of climbers taking different routes and still reaching the top of the mountain. Jesus himself said there is only one way: «Where I am going you know the way. Thomas said to him: Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way? Jesus said to him: I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me ”(John 14,4-6).

My friends were right when they say that there are many religions, but when it comes to seeking the one true, Almighty God, there is only one way. In the Letter to the Hebrews we read of a new and living way into the sanctuary: «Because now, brothers and sisters, through the blood of Jesus we have the boldness to enter the sanctuary, which he has opened up to us as a new and living way through the curtain , that is: through the sacrifice of his body »(Hebrews 10,19-20).

The Word of God reveals that there is a wrong way: «To some one way seems right; but in the end he brings him to death »(Proverbs 14,12). God tells us that we should leave our ways: «For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways, says the Lord, but as much as heaven is higher than earth, my ways are also higher than your ways and my thoughts as your thoughts »(Isaiah 55,8-9).

In the beginning I had very little understanding of Christianity because many of its followers do not reflect the way of life of Christ. The apostle Paul described being a Christian as the way: “But I confess to you that, following the way they call a sect, I serve the God of my fathers so that I believe everything that is written in the law and in the prophets »(Acts 24,14).

Paul was on his way to Damascus to chain those who followed that path. The tables were turned, because "Saul" was blinded by Jesus on the way and he lost his sight. When Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit, scales fell from his eyes. He regained his sight and began preaching the way he hated and proved Jesus was the Messiah. "Immediately he preached to Jesus in the synagogues that he was the Son of God" (Acts of the Apostles 9,20). The Jews planned to kill him for this, but God spared his life.

What are the consequences of walking in the way of Christ? Peter exhorts us to follow in Jesus' footsteps and learn from him to be meek and humble: “If you suffer and endure because you do good, it is grace with God. For this is what you are called to do, since Christ also suffered for you and you have left an example that you should follow his footsteps »(1. Peter 2,20-21).

Thank God the Father for showing you the way of salvation through Jesus Christ, because Jesus is the only way, trust him!
