A light shines

841 a light shines onIn winter, it gets dark in our region as early as 4:30 a.m. This is natural darkness, but it has nothing to do with the deep darkness in which we live. I would like to describe this darkness in more detail: wars and rumors of war around the world, famines, water shortages and terrible misery are putting a strain on people, animals and the environment. Earthquakes, natural disasters, epidemics and diseases are destroying life and frightening people in the world. The real darkness, caused by the devil's seduction through his lies, is greed and selfishness, which cause people to sink into hopelessness.

Even 2000 years ago, Israel and the peoples of the Middle East experienced such terrible times in their darkness. The Israelites were waiting longingly for the Messiah, the anointed one - and coming king and savior. They believed that he would soon come to establish the kingdom of God on earth.

The Messiah came into the world unexpectedly for many. God himself speaks through the prophet: "The people who lived in darkness have seen a great light; for all who lived in the land of darkness a light has shined. Lord, (Isaiah speaks in the name of the Father) you multiply them and give them great joy. For a child is born, the future King has been given to us! And these are the honorary names that will be given to him: prudent ruler, mighty hero, everlasting father, prince of peace. His power will reach far and lasting peace will come. The Lord, the Ruler of the world, has decided this and will do it" (Isaiah 9,1-2 and 5-6 Good News Bible).

In Jesus Christ, this great light shone in the world. The child born from the womb of Mary is the Son of the Most High. The dominion and the kingdom rest on his shoulders. Jesus is the wonderful, unique Counselor for all people. Jesus is one with his Father because he himself is God. Jesus' name is exalted above all names and one day every knee will bow before him. Jesus is the Prince of Peace who will bring and preserve peace for mankind.

The more impenetrable the darkness, the brighter the light shines. Jesus himself is the all-encompassing light of the world. Before him and at his word, all darkness must give way. As he said in the beginning: Let there be light and there was light - through Jesus himself. This is also true today. Wherever Jesus appears and lets his light shine, it becomes light - even without the sun, moon and stars, which only later became part of creation.

The light of Jesus Christ shines into your heart. It is illuminated by the love, grace, joy and peace of God. Feel his warmth, compassion and benevolence. Jesus has given you his love from the manger to the cross and beyond, so that you too can let his light shine on your fellow human beings. In the bright light of the love of Jesus.
