Fellowship in the triune God
Many people experience God as a mystery on their faith journey. He remains difficult for them to grasp. They wonder who or what God is. Often they imagine him as an invisible person in heaven who rules over everything. The astonishing truth is: God is far greater than our minds can comprehend. He is one being in three divine persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They live in perfect relationship with one another: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all!” (2. Kor 13,13).
The Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are distinct from one another and yet perfectly one. Paul writes: “For it has been made manifest that you yourselves are a letter from Christ through our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” (2. Kor 3,3).
God invites you to be part of a holy and loving community, as described in the Epistle to the Ephesians: “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For in him he chose us before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight, predestined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to his pleasure and will—to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” (Eph 1,3-6).
The doctrine of the Trinity is far more than a tenet of faith or a formal statement in a creed. Through his life, death, resurrection, and ascension, our Savior Jesus has drawn us into this divine communion and granted us a share in it: “The life has appeared, and we have seen it and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and has appeared to us—what we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you also may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.” (1. Joh 1,2-3).
This connection is for all people. We are created to personally know and experience the love and grace of the triune God. God is now calling you to participate in this fellowship. The Bible reminds us: “For God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1. Kor 1,9).
Dear reader, through Jesus Christ you belong to the community of the triune God. Nothing in heaven and nothing on earth can separate you from God's love. Do you believe this?
