We are not alone
People are afraid to be alone - emotionally and physically. Therefore, solitary confinement in prisons is considered one of the worst punishments. Psychologists say that the fear of being alone makes people insecure, worried and depressed.
God the Father knew this and therefore repeatedly assured people that they were not alone. He was with them. (Jes 43,1-3)He helped them (Jes 41,10)...and he would not leave her (5. Mose 31,6)The message was clear: We are not alone.
To emphasize this message, God sent his Son Jesus to earth. Jesus not only brought healing and salvation to a broken world, but he was one of us. He understood firsthand what we were going through because he lived among us. (Hebr 4,15)The message was clear: We are not alone.
When the time appointed by God came for Jesus to end his earthly ministry on the cross, Jesus wanted his disciples to know that they were not alone, even if he were to leave them. (Joh 14,15-21)The Holy Spirit would reinforce this message: We are not alone.
We receive the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in us just as they receive us, becoming part of Divine Providence. God assures us that we do not have to be afraid to be alone. If we are degenerated because we are going through a divorce or separation, we are not alone. When we feel empty and lonely because we have lost a loved one, we are not alone.
If we feel that everyone is against us because of false rumors, we are not alone. If we feel worthless and useless because we can not find a job, we are not alone. If we feel misunderstood because others claim we have wrong motives for our behavior, we are not alone. When we feel weak and helpless because we are sick, we are not alone. When we feel like we're failing because we went bankrupt, we're not alone. If we feel that the burden of this world is too heavy for us, we are not alone.
The things of this world can overwhelm us, but the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are always by our side. They are not there to take away our difficult circumstances, but to assure us that we are not alone, no matter what valleys we must walk through. They guide, lead, carry, strengthen, understand, comfort, encourage, and advise us, and walk with us every step of our life's journey. They will not take their hand from us or abandon us. The Holy Spirit lives in us, and therefore we must never feel lonely. (1. Kor 6,19), then: We are not alone!
